Fabric and craft stores are carrying several wreaths made with more organic materials such as cotton stems, feathers, or faux fur or fleece. They are gorgeous but very pricey. I decided to duplicate a wreath I spotted at Joann Fabrics using fleece from a blanket that was clearanced at Essex which came from none other than “the circle boutique”(Target).
This fleece blanket was $16.00! You can’t beat the price of 4 yards of material for $16.00!
I cut 4, 4 inch wide lengthwise strips from the blanket and set aside. You can buy wreath forms but they are pricey and I am a big believer in using what you have or upcycling used materials. I used the brown packing paper that I found in one of our Amazon Prime boxes. You could also use newspaper or shopping bags and tape.
I had a mirror that I wanted to use in the center of my wreath and used it as a guide when making my form.
The fleece material is awesome because it has a decent stretch and is very forgiving because of the texture. Faux sheep fleece easily sticks to itself and odd ends are easily tucked in. Starting at one end wrap the strip of fabric tucking in seams to hide your form.

Tuck the next fabric strip behind the first and overlap slightly when wrapping.
I used leftover burlap to create a ribbon. I didn’t have actual burlap ribbon, so I sprayed it with some Niagara starch and hot glued it together . Using left over fleece and a hot glue gun , I created these decorative Pom poms that gave it a finished look.
I have a ton of fabric left over and look forward to creating other crafts with it! On to the next mantle project!
